A series of explosions rocked Delhi on Saturday evening, killing at least 65 people and leaving scores injured, some of them critically.As many as 20 people have been killed in an explosion in Sarojini Nagar market and 15 others have reportedly been killed in Paharganj.The markets were filled with shoppers doing their last-minute purchases for Diwali.NDTV CorrespondentSaturday, October 29, 2005 (New Delhi):A series of explosions rocked Delhi on Saturday evening, killing at least 65 people and leaving scores injured, some of them critically.As many as 20 people have been killed in an explosion in Sarojini Nagar market and 15 others have reportedly been killed in Paharganj.The markets were filled with shoppers doing their last-minute purchases for Diwali.Most of those injured or killed in the explosions were ordinary people out shopping in the festival season.Suspects detainedAt least ten people have been detained following the three blasts in Delhi.Five of them were picked up from the New Delhi Railway station and others from other railway stations and bus terminals.It is now believed that high explosive devices suspected to be RDX were used in carrying out the blasts.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in a statement from Kolkata said the blasts are a clear case of terrorism.”No terrorist can win against India. India will win the battle against terrorism,” the Prime Minister said.Red alert soundedA red alert has been sounded across several places in the country including neighbouring Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai and Kolkata.Home Minister Shivraj Patil called a high-level emergency meeting at 9 pm (IST) to review the situation and discuss security operations.National Security Adviser, M K Naraynan, Cabinet Secretary B K Chaturvedi, Home Secretary V K Duggal and Delhi Chief Secretary S Regunathan also attended the meeting.The Home Minister said it was too early to pinpoint who was responsible for the blasts.”As to who is responsible for the blasts, we will not like to jump to any conclusion. I was standing outside my shop when the blast took place. Ten people died immediately,” said a shopkeeper.Blast in GovindpuriAnother explosion was reported from Govindpuri in south Delhi. The explosion took place inside a bus, and four people have been critically injured.There were at least 35-40 people travelling on a bus through Govindpuri when the conductor spotted a suspicious looking plastic bag on the bus that did not belong to any of the passengers.He immediately asked all the passengers to get out of the bus.”If it wasn’t for the conductor and the driver, all the passengers would’ve died, I want to know what happened to them, I am grateful to them,” said Afzal, an injured passenger.There were just five people on board when the blast rattled the bus. But quick thinking and equally fast reaction of both the driver and the conductor saved the day for the passengers.Both the driver and the conductor suffered injuries. Sikap dan tindak-tanduk kita tidak lagi sama dengan nenek moyang kita pada beberapa abad yang lalu. Padahal Islam dapat menyebar dengan cepat dan saat ini Islam menjadi agama kedua terbesar di dunia semata-mata karena sikap dan perilaku keteladanan yang dilakukan dan ditampakkan oleh umat Islam masa lalu. Sebaliknya kita lihat dewasa ini pelanggaran besar terhadap dimensi utama budaya Islam banyak dilakukan oleh umat.Pada masyarakat kontemporer saat ini, kita agaknya lebih memfokuskan diri pada norma daripada nilai-nilai. Kita lebih terfokus pada perintah dan larangan dan kurang akan nilai-nilai (values). Kultur Islam telah meletakkan fondasi norma dan nilai-nilai, tetapi sebagaimana dikatakan di muka, kita kurang mendapat informasi atau penjelasan tentang nilai-nilai yang begitu esensial dalam rangka menjamin kehormatan dan harga diri kehidupan umat manusia dalam interaksi sosial keseharian kita. Memahami aspek-aspek kognitif dan normatif budaya merupakan dasar untuk memahami kultur dan budaya Islami. Tetapi, terdapat dua dimensi budaya yang memerlukan sedikitnya perhatian singkat kita, yakni integrasi kultur dan relativisme budaya. Ini akan memungkinkan kita untuk memahami bagaimana kultur dapat dipengaruhi oleh kompleksitas masyarakat modern.Integrasi BudayaSejumlah sarjana mengatakan bahwa kultur adalah sebuah ‘sistem yang tertata (ordered)’. Ia memiliki banyak unsur-unsur budaya. Dalam masyarakat Islam yang kecil pada masa lalu, kepercayaan agama dan nilai-nilai kekeluargaan terjalin jadi satu dalam tindak tanduk para pemeluk Islam. Hubungan sosial antara orang-orang yang beragama dengan orang biasa terpadu harmonis. Masyarakat Islam secara keseluruhan terintegrasi dengan baik dengan sedikit terjadi adanya friksi dan ketegangan dalam hidup keseharian. Akan tetapi dewasa ini pengaruh-pengaruh kultur modern telah mengarah pada kehidupan yang kurang integratif antara sesama muslim, dan ini terjadi juga pada masyarakat dari agama lain. Tingkat perubahan sosial yang relatif cepat dan adanya kompleksitas serta ukuran struktur sosial menimbulkan banyak terjadinya inkonsistensi dan sejumlah ketegangan. Tidak jarang terjadi sikap yang kurang toleran dan kurangnya saling memahami antara masyarakat secara umum. Umat Islam tidak terkecuali dalam hal ini. Adalah mustahil kita dapat memiliki budaya yang seragam untuk umat Islam seluruh dunia. Alasan yang sederhana untuk ini adalah lingkungan sosial di mana anak-anak muslim bersosialiasi; sedang kalangan muslim dewasa bersosialisasi kembali membentuk berbagai variasi yang beragam antara satu tempat dengan tempat yang lain.Relativisme BudayaKetidakseimbangan sosial ini perlu dikoreksi. Dengan kata lain, dalam rangka untuk mengimbangi sikap intoleransi dan kecilnya saling pengertian yang ditunjukkan masyarakat pada kultur lain, maka terdapat ide dan argumen akan perlunya kita menyadari adanya relativitas budaya di kalangan umat Islam. Relativisme budaya menekankan pada adanya fakta bahwa seluruh kultur manusia pada dasarnya sah dan legitimate dan masing-masing memiliki integritas esensialnya sendiri; setiap budaya dikembangkan oleh perjuangan manusia untuk menciptakan sebuah kehidupan simbolik dalam keadaan-keadaan yang dibatasi oleh lingkungan alam. Karena bersifat selalu berbeda satu sama lain, maka dengan sendirinya tidak ada satupun budaya yang mesti jadi preferensi. Preferensi kita, tentunya masing-masing dari kita memiliki preferensi, hanyalah membuktikan bahwa nilai-nilai dan pilihan-pilihan kita telah dibentuk oleh budaya kita sendiri. Karena itu, dari perspektif relativisme budaya sikap dan perilaku manusia dalam sebuah masyarakat harus dinilai dengan standar kultural masyarakat yang bersangkutan, tidak oleh standar yang lain.Satu hal yang mesti dicatat bahwa kita cenderung menjadi etnosentris ketika memberi penilaian terhadap masyarakat dan budaya lain dengan standar norma-norma dan budaya kita sendiri. Kita memiliki kecenderungan untuk percaya bahwa apa yang kita tahu dan terima adalah yang terbaik, dan apa yang tampak berbeda dan aneh adalah tidak berguna dan inferior. Sikap ini mungkin kurang tepat. Muslim yang tinggal di tempat, daerah atau negara yang berbeda tidak dapat dan tidak memiliki kultur yang sama. Muslim di suatu negara atau daerah hendaknya tidak jadi wasit penilai terhadap perilaku muslim di negara atau daerah lain dengan mengatakan bahwa mereka lebih superior dibanding yang lain. Hal yang paling esensial adalah mandat Islam pada kita untuk memelihara perilaku kultural utama yang khusus hendaknya tidak dilanggar.Sebagai salah satu jalan untuk menentang sikap sempit etnosentrisme, relativisme budaya dapat membebaskan dan dapat menghindari konflik dan ketegangan kecil antar-umat yang tidak perlu. Ia dapat membebaskan kita dari ketidakpedulian dan arogansi pola pemikiran bahwa budaya dan nilai-nilai yang kita anut adalah yang terbaik. Relativisme budaya mengajarkan kita berbagai cara untuk menjadi manusia beradab yang telah diciptakan dan dielaborasi, dinilai dan dipertahankan, sepanjang evolusi umat manusia.Cara-cara yang dilakukan Islam, sepanjang sejarah penyebarannya, adalah untuk memahami. Sedang mempraktikkan relativisme budaya merupakan contoh terbaik dalam kehidupan antar-umat beragama dalam teori dan praktik. Islam tidak mengijinkan pemaksaan budayanya pada yang lain. Islam tidak membolehkan penghakiman atas nilai-nilai yang dianut orang lain. Islam hanya mengatakan kalian ikuti apa yang terbaik yang sesuai untuk umat manusia biasa, tanpa mengganggu rasa sentimen yang lain.Dalam konteks lokal keindonesiaan, di mana pola perikehidupan beragama sangat beragam dan plural termasuk antar-sesama umat Islam sendiri, relativisme budaya saya kira merupakan salah satu cara terbaik untuk menuju sikap hikmah (wisdom) atau arif dan bijak dalam melihat perbedaan-perbedaan ‘kecil’ yang, suka atau tidak suka, sudah terjadi dan, dengan demikian, menjadi realitas kehidupan keseharian.
