When I was a kid I kept wondering about the brouhaha of sporting events. Why a nation and a country tend to dramatise a sporting event. In the Cold War era when the so-called global influence were equally divided between USA and Soviet Union, the Olympics became a place to show each other dominance.
Millions or billions of dollars are spent by each country to have their best sportpersons excel in such event. Again I didn’t understand then the actual purpose in the sense is the spending of such a lot money worth the result and the feeling any country will get when one of their sportsmen reach the glory?
But now when I start to understand the important of branding, of making good impression; of the fact that a corporate spend a lot more money to advertise its new product. Because the billions of dollars of money spent for such purpose will get even in no time when the image and branding creation campaign has been achieved. If such artificial campaign as promoting a new product can make a lot of difference in terms of selling products, then a campaign by a country through sports and sportsperson certainly deserves a lot more respect.
Beijing Summer Olympic 2008
Many people think of Beijing Olympic 2008 as the most colossal ever. China obviously wanted to make this event a lifetime experience for its visitors to remember in a positive note not only in terms of prosperity, but also in terms of many other things China previously infamous for. Obviously billions of dollars China has spent for this event worth the expectation for either side: China and the visitors.
The 2008 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, is a major international multi-sport event which is being celebrated in Beijing, People’s Republic of China from August 8 (with football starting on August 6) to August 24, 2008 and followed by the 2008 Summer Paralympics from September 6 to September 17. 10,500 athletes are expected to compete in 302 events in 28 sports, one event more than was on the schedule of the 2004 games. The 2008 Beijing Olympics will also mark the third time that Olympic events will have been held in the territories of two different National Olympic Committees (NOC), with the equestrian events to be held in Hong Kong. Many people think of Beijing Olympic 2008 as the most colossal ever!!

The Olympic Games event is a kind of spectacular chance for every country. We can use this event to promote our country to the world through sports. Indonesia still has to learn many things to be able to compete on the same level with other countries in the world of sports.
