Australian Open 2009 Final: Serena Williams beats Dinara Safina

MELBOURNE (AFP)

Serena Williams thrashed Russia’s Dinara Safina 6-0, 6-3 to win her fourth Australian Open title Saturday, bringing her total Grand Slam tally to 10 in one of the most one-sided deciders ever.

The win means the American, seeded second in the tournament, will also take the world number one ranking off Serb Jelena Jankovic.

Williams, 27, utterly dominated third seed Safina, allowing her opponent to win only eight points in the first set on her way to claiming the championship in less than an hour.

The American also won the women’s doubles title with her sister Venus on Friday and became the highest ever prizemoney winner in women’s sport during the tournament.

YouTube Video Download Tools

There are two ways you can download a video from YouTube.com and watch it from your PC or laptop (instead of watching it online).

First, Convert online.
(a) Go to http://downloadyoutubevideos.com/. Enter the Youtube URL link, and click “Get Started”.

or

(b) Visit http://www.savevideodownload.com/download.php Enter the youtube URL link into the box. Click the “Get Links.” It will be downloaded in .flv format – use VLC or another compatible player to view it.

Second, Convert offline. For this you need a software. Download it here (free trial).

Here’s the Editor’s review:

This simple freeware application works pretty well, given how basic the interface is. It has two main features: to download FLV files from YouTube, and to convert them to most major formats. If there’s a YouTube URL in your clipboard, it will automatically paste it for you when you click on the dialog box. From there, just hit OK and the downloading will commence. One more left-click is all it takes to load the file in the converter, which supports iPhone, iPod, PSP, cell phone, AVI, MP3, WMV, and Xvid. Surprisingly, there’s also a basic video editor for cropping videos by time stamp. You can also cut out the sound when converting.

This is one of the lightest editors around, but the simplistic interface belies its functionality and it performs exactly as advertised. We’d like to see support in future editions for hunting down missing codecs, and version 2.1.5 and earlier won’t work because of embed code changes on YouTube itself. Still, the YouTube Downloader is proof that not only is video-making accessible to everyone, so is video downloading and editing.

Australian Open 2009 Final: Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal the number 2 and number 1 in tennis are head to head in Australian Open 2009 final. It’d be very interesting match whoever wins the battle. Jon Wertheim of Sport Illustrated has an interesting thought:

If Roger Federer wins? He ties Pete Sampras with his 14th career Grand Slam singles title, one more point in favor of his candidacy for the Greatest of All Time (GOAT). He will have beat Rafael Nadal in their first meeting at a major championship played on a hard court. He’ll exact some revenge on Nadal after losing that epic Wimbledon final. After being dismissed last summer, Federer will have won the subsequent two majors and reclaim hegemony.

If Nadal wins? He will have claimed his sixth major title and first on a hard court — at age 22. He’ll improve his record against Federer to 13-6, including wins in the last five encounters. He’ll solidify his hold on the No. 1 ranking. Suddenly, he’s right in there for the GOAT discussion. No matter the outcome, it’s a great narrative.
