A news many Muslim in Indonesia has expected the Indonesia’s government to do on Ahmadiya much earlier
Indonesia’s Government has placed severe restrictions on the activities of the minority muslim, Ahmadiya sect which has been denounced as deviant by Islamic hardliners. See here the six points of the decree against Ahmadiyya (in Bahasa Indonesia)
The decree, according to Radio Australia reports has
…falls short of the outright ban demanded by fundamentalists.
The government seems wanting to take the middle path between appeasing those who demand Ahmadiya’s ban and those who want Indonesia to be more tolerant to any expression, including religious expression.
Indonesia’s vice president said the government does not plan to ban a sect branded by many Muslims as “heretical”, and denied too that authorities had been soft on a militant Islamic group blamed for attacks.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday that the Ahmadiyya sect can continue in Indonesia and its followers were allowed to worship in their homes and mosques, but they must not preach or try to convert others,[ ... ]
Indonesian, both Muslim and non-Muslim, the so-called “liberal” and fundamentalist, needs to learn how to express their disagreement in a more civilized way. To disagree is one thing, to express one’s disagreement in an acceptable way –both in words or “actions”, violent or non-violent is quite another.
I take the same position. For short term, the decision made by the government is enough. Escalation has been avoided. The task now is to separate the Ahmadiyyah issue (or in general, other heretical issues) from the thuggery using religious symbols. What people now have in mind is, they dislike the corollary groups (“the heretics”) and they dont like methods use by FPI and friends. Hence, the silence and confusion (police let FPI did what they want, and at the same time no strong condemnation towards it from many muslim groups).
Any authority (with power in its hand) that can make clear cut points between these two issues will resolve the problem. FPI should be liquidated due to its crime records, not the issues they raised. The muslims (in general) should start learn that Islam has many faces and interpretation (even the Prophet himself said there would be many groups after he died, however no banning of others endorsed by him).
Ya Allah tunjukanlah kami jalan yg lurus dan Allah ridho, bimbing saudara kami utk kembali ke ke jalan-MU
I hope government will take a real action on this matter. Not just this brings more conflict but what we are fear that violences will spread among our beloved country.I though,”the evil” smelt it like a chance to gain darkness around us.

the government should take a decision ASAP to STOP ahmadiyah in indonesia, coz ahmadiyah case can make horizontal conflict like monas tragedy and “penyimpangan akidah”
Why to be afraid of Ahmadiyyah? They won’t spread unless we are weak!
pokoknya indonesia harus dibersihkan segala tindakan yg merugikan, biar kita tenang nge blog
