Indonesia is #1 most corrupt countries in the Asia-Pacific. There’s a public discourse going on about the possibility to give a maximum punishment, yes I am talking about death penalty here, for corrupt officials who keep taking the country’s money for themselves, leaving many people impoverished and in abject poverty.
Death penaly for corrupt officials is needed to prevent them further their corrupt practices, to prevent other devil civil servants (PNS) to do the same and in return to make the wealth of Indonesia return to those who really deserve. No less important, to make the country no longer in top ten most countries.
One opinion who agrees with this discourse is Mahfud MD, the chairman of MK (Constitutioal Court of Indonesia). Antara reports,
Constitutional Court chairman Mahfud MD said he agreed with the idea to make corruption punishable by death to deter would-be corrupters.
The idea had actually existed for a long time but it seemed that some quarters still could not accept it, he told newsmen after speaking at a seminar at Sriwijaya University here on Friday.
Mahfud said if the idea was still unacceptable he would propose “a half death penalty” for them to further deter would-be corrupters.
Asked what he meant by “half death penalty”, Mahfud declined to elabporate. He only said that state or government officials who had misused state money had to be dealt with firmly.
Prof Dr Saldi Isra from Andalas University in Padang, West Sumatra, shared Mahfud`s view that corrupters had to be given the death penalty. )
The public discussion on this issue is getting its momentum with so many prominent individuals and influential insitution agree with this.
Muhammadiyah, for example, supports this idea. Din Syamsuddin, the current chairman of Muhammadiyah as reported by Hidayatullah, com said yesterday that those civil servants or government officials who commit corrupt practices have cut the lives of many people in terms of their economies and even their own survival. Therefore, “I agree death penaly should applied to them.”
setuju nih klo ini yang jadi hukuman buat koruptor, masa yang maling biasa aja hukumannya berat, ya koruptor yang maling uang rakyat lebih banyak harus lebih setimpal hukumannya biar pada jera.
