Many new indonesian students who will study in India got confused about everything, particularly before they arrive in India. it’s understandable, particularly India is known to many indonesians as a poor country with “old-fashioned” infrastructure. they just worry what they used to enjoy in their country are not available here in india.
well, for you are who going to come here or interested to study in india later and dont find friends to ask for and talk with, here some basic guides:
first, if you dont have any friend in india what you have to do after arriving in new delhi is Go To Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi. The address: 50-A Chanakyapuri, Kautilya Marg (Near Ashok Hotel). Or you can call Indonesian Embassy in India (New Delhi) at: 11-26110693; 26118642; 26118647.
second, in case your arrival happens to be Sunday, where the embassy office is closed, you can come to Indonesian Student Association in India known as PPI India (persatuan pelajar indonesia – india). the address: 123 Humayunpur, Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi. The emails you can contacts are as follows:
(a) Rizqon Khamami at rizqonkham-at-yahoo.com
(b) Jusman Masga at masgazoy-at-yahoo.com
(c) Mukhlis Zamzami at muchliszamzami-at-rediffmail.com
(d) Khairurrazi at mr_rozio-at-yahoo.com
All the five persons are our most senior members as well as respected staffs of PPI India and they stay in the PPI-India headquarter ready to help and greet new members and guests.
third, to go to indonesian embassy in new delhi or to indonesian student office from airport you need to go by taxi or auto-rickshaw (bajay as we call it in indonesia). the price are around 100 rupees. be careful with the drivers, they tend to play you around once they know you are new visitor. you can purchase the ticket from the taxi stand or buy directly to the driver. mind you, even the ticket taxi counter cannot be trusted (i myself experienced it, once!).
fourth, for hostel, campus, or renting room you can think it later. most important thing is meeting with indonesian students or indonesian official in indonesian embassy. dont forget to write down the address and the phone numbers.
