Happy Ramadhan 2008 1429

Happy Ramadhan 2008 AC / 1429 AH for all Muslims around the world who perform thirty-day long fasting. The starting day of Ramadhan this year most probably on Monday 1st of September or Tuesday 2nd of September 2008.

The two probabilities (First or Second of September) happens because the starting day of Ramadan is based on lunar calendar [1]. That’s said in many Arab countries, especially in the Gulf States, Ramadan 1429 will start on Monday September 1.

[1] Muslims measure the passage of time using the Islamic (Hijrah) calendar. This calendar has twelve lunar months, the beginnings and endings of which are determined by the sighting of the crescent moon. Years are counted since the Hijrah, which is when the Prophet Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Madinah (approximately July 622 A.D.).

beberapa malam lalu bulan mengada setengah hati
    esoknya setengah hati kurang sedikit
tunggu saat bulan sawah jadi sabit, lalu padam
apakah ini tentang kepenuhan hati yang berkurang?
    sesungguhnya tidak
seperti hati kita sering dibiarkan berdebu
    bulan tetap dengan kepenuhan hatinya
    kita biarkan hati kita berdebu
    sehingga pudarkan cahaya hati bulan

    selamat menunaikan ibadah puasa
