President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has officially declared his reelection bid for the next presidential election come July 2009 and his pick of Boediono as his VP. TOM WRIGHT of WSJ has this report:
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Friday chose Indonesia’s central bank governor as his running mate for elections in July, giving a strong signal he will push to clean up government more aggressively if re-elected.
Mr. Yudhoyono is enjoying broad popular support in large part because of an anticorruption drive and the fact he has presided over an economy that has continued to expand despite the current global slowdown. Gross domestic product grew 4.4% in the first quarter from a year earlier, the government said Friday, down from 5.2% in the fourth quarter but still one of the fastest growth rates of any major Asian economy.
Oh one more thing, did you notice, that SBY’s VP has only a single name?
Other Presidential candidates
Jusuf Kalla (presidentail candiate or Capres in local parley) with Wiranto as VP candidate (or Cawapres)
Megawati Sukarnoputri (presidential candidate / capres) and Prabowo Subijanto (as VP / Cawapres)
Thus, there’ll be three presidential candidate which will compete to be Indonesia’s president in the July 2009 presidential election.
Who’ll win the race? Will SBY be reelected? Will Jusuf Kalla make it? Who do you think you’ll vote for?

Still think SBY Berbudi is the best choice. I am still puzzled about two things. Why would JK pick someone who betrayed Golkar as his VP? And why would Mega pick ex-son-in-law of person who imprisoned his father and “staged a coup” against him? Indonesian politics is really pragmatic.
