Yesterday, there’s a pop-up message when I opened Firefox to block a plugins called “Windows Presentation Foundation.” I did it. It turns out, the plugins / addons along with another contain security risks and will be officially blocked by FF. Good. May be that’s one thing among others that cause Firefox crashes I experienced few days ago.
Mozilla late Friday blocked the Microsoft-made software that had put Firefox users at risk from attack.
The two-part Microsoft component — an add-on dubbed “.NET Framework Assistant” and a plug-in named “Windows Presentation Foundation” — have been blocked by Mozilla as a precautionary measure, said Mike Shaver, the company’s head of engineering.
“Because of the difficulties some users have had entirely removing the add-on, and because of the severity of the risk it represents if not disabled, we contacted Microsoft today to indicate that we were looking to disable the extension and plug-in for all users via our blocklisting mechanism,” Shaver said in an announcement posted Friday night to the company’s security blog.
As long as my memory serves, Mozilla’s security standard is somewhat higher, much higher than any other browser applications, which can provide secure feelings to its users and ,at the same time, can trigger more unexpected problems like this.
There are some addons or plugins we may find useful but Firefox deems to be a potential threat that may pose users to greater risks.
So, is there any feasible way to unblock plugins and addons that FF blocks? Should we customize the security setting? but how?
