One Week Wordpress Blog Not Indexed by Google

Posted on October 8, 2009

Kyo, in a comment in this blog asks:

I have just created a self-hosted wordpress-powered blog a week ago. I also post an articles quite regularly–almost everyday. Unfortunately, none of the posts nor the main URL are being indexed by search engines particularly Google. Why?

Answer:
Possibility 1: You have not set the privacy of your wordpress blog into an open website for search engine to crawl. By default, wordpress blog is set to block search engine from crawling your blog or website.

To change the setting, do the following:
1. After login -> Setting -> Privacy
2. Check the first checkbox which reads “I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers”
3. Click “Save Changes”. Done.

To make your blog even more visible to search engine, go to Setting -> Writing -> add the following ping services at the bottom (update services box):

http://www.blogpeople.net/servlet/weblogUpdates
http://bulkfeeds.net/rpc
http://ping.myblog.jp
http://ping.bitacoras.com
http://ping.bloggers.jp/rpc/
http://bblog.com/ping.php
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2

Remember to click Save Changes

Possibility 2: You have turned on the “open for search engine” setting as mentioned above, but your site is still not indexed by Google in which case do the followings: ask your good friend who has a blog to give a backlink to your newly created blog.

Notes: If you don’t know yet if your blog is indexed or not just open www.google.com and enter this word in the search box:
site:yourdomain.com or in my case I write: site:fatihsyuhud.com then click enter.

If your blog has not been indexed, the return result will be like:

Your search – site:example.com – did not match any documents.

If your website has been indexed the result will be the list of your blog contents.

***

In Blogger.com blogspot, you can turn the “open for search engine” setting by going to Setting -> Basic -> Choose “Yes” on “Let search engines find your blog?”. Remember to click “Save Setting” afterwards.

it’s normally, just leave several comment at dofollow blog, and the spider will follow the link and find your new site. Then, teh spider will indexs it as soon as possible.

If you use wordpress script from wordpress org (fantastico), you could use plugin “one SEO pack” to increase traffic from search engine, it helpul

Glad not to experience the similar painful experience…Newbies like me are sometimes so blind about some seemingly trivial yet essential details like that. Kyo, you’re so lucky to have your complaint answered on this celebrated blog! ^_^
