Blogger.com blogspot which was acquired by Google in 2003 has been somewhat left behind in terms of improvement and innovation compared to WordPress, its closest competitor.

In a blog post from its official blog, Blogger promises to keep up its performance by making some new features the details of which has yet to be disclosed.

For me, the mostly needed additional features in Blogger are anything related to SEO including auto meta tag description for each post like All in One SEO Pack plugin or Platinum SEO Pack plugin  in wordpress and related posts.

The reason why many Blogger Blogspot user moved to WordPress is because they think WordPress is a lot better than Blogger Blogspot in SEO. Blogger wants traffics after a lot of works in writing.

The script will generate the meta tags based on the feed of your blog and updates the html template at Blogger. It generates meta tags for the following pages.

1. The homepage/ mainpage
   1. with the blog description
   2. with the most used labels / tags in the blog as keywords
2. The page of each post/article
   1. with the first paragraph of the post as description
   2. with the labels/  tags of the post as keywords

This hack is certainly a sort of revolutionary since none ever able to do it before. The script behaves precisely like auto-generated meta description of Platinum SEO Pack or All in One SEO Pack WordPress plugins.

Unfortunately, it’s written in python program which is a bit complicated for those Windows user who are not familiar with Linux operating system. Including me.

We hope those who are familiar with python program can make Sebastian’s script more easier to implement for ordinary user. Please comment or trackback this post if you have done so.

What we expectt is this: Blogger Blogspot user needs only to copy/paste the script into the Blogger template without any need to run a complicated python script.

Question: I am an old time Blogger Blogspot user. I love using Blogger template the old version (html version or classic template). Recently, I gave a try the new Blogger template (xml version). But I feel uncomfortable with it. Can I revert to the classic version and if so how?

Answer: Yes, you can return or revert to the old template easily.

Just follow these steps:

1. Login to your Blogger.Com -> click Design at the blog you want to edit
2. Click Edit HTML -> click Revert to Classic Template located at the bottom of the page.
3. Done.

I. Title and Meta Tag Description
If you use the common meta description in Blogger Blogspot, you made a big mistake. Because it will create the same meta description for all of your posts / articles as well as you frontpage blog. Thus, in the eyes of Google search engine, you have violated the no-duplicate-content policy and will have to pay for it.

To fix it, you need to create a special meta description made specifically  for Blogger Blogspot blog. See the tutorial here,

II. Date Comment Permalink

The permalink in a Blogger Blogspot comments will cause duplicate content so far as search engine goes. Read more on how to fix it

III. Archive Pages and Archive Widgets
Archives pages and archive widgets can cause a duplicate issue as well. You need to fix it to avoid Google penalties for having too many duplicate content. Read the tutorial to fix the problem here.

IV. Recent Comment Widget

Recent comment widget is using Blogger comment feed (blogspot.com/feeds/comments/default) which supplies search engines with links to your blog comments. Avoid using it as it’ll cause duplicate link and content.

1. Login to your blogger.com account -> Layout -> Edit HTML -> check Expand Widget Template
2. Copy the following code

3. Put the code before  or after this code -> <data:post.body/>
4. Save Template. Done.

STEP ONE: Setting in Rumahweb Domain Cpanel

1. Login to your Domain CPANEL at http://domcpanel.rumahweb.com
2. Domains -> List all Orders -> click domain you want to edit
3. Click DNS -> click Auto-update Nameservers
4. Click Manage DNS -> click CNAME Records -> click Add CNAME Records
5. Fill out the boxes as follows:
   1. Host Name: www
   2. Value: ghs.google.com (check the second button)
   3. Click Add Record. Done.

Note: You will need to allow a 24-72 hour propagation time for the DNS service to begin working.

STEP TWO: Setting Required in Blogger.com

1. Login to your Blogger.com account
2. Click Setting -> Publishing -> Custom Domain
3. Click “Switch to advanced settings” -> enter your top domain. Example: www.fatihsyuhud.com
4. On Use a missing files host? -> check NO
5. Save Settings. Done.

Google’s Blogger / blogspot doesn’t want to be lagged far behind its competitor. It seems willing and trying hard to improve its performance as per the end-users feedback. The embedded-below-post comment inbox is now on the trial–not officially released yet, though you’re encouraged to try it.

Another project in the pipeline is export import facility. For now you can export files from blogger/blogspot blog and import them to another blogger / blogspot. Well, it cannot be imported to another blogging platform such as wordpress yet. But it’s a big step nevertheless.

How to Do it

1. Login to your blogger.com admin through http://draft.blogger.com
2. Click Setting
3. Click Export -> export blog to your computer.

Once it’s done the file is ready to be imported. You just need to repeat the same process:
1. Click Setting
2. Click Import
3. Click Browse to exported file in your computer
4. Click Import Blog (don’t forget to check the “Publish all entries automatically)
5. Done.

Blogger Blogspot archive pages has generated similar link that Google doesn’t understand. This leads to duplicate content issues and duplicate title tags/meta descriptions. To avoid this issue, you need to block it using meta tag no-index command

How to fix this problem:

1. Login to blogger.com -> Layouts -> Edit HTML
2. Add the following code at #3 after <head> tag
3. <b:if cond=’data:blog.pageType == &quot;archive&quot;’><meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow" /></b:if>
4. Click Save Template. Done. [1]

2. Archive Widgets

Archive widgets if not properly set will also create a duplicate contents. Here’s how to fix it.

1. Login to blogger.com -> Design -> Page Elements
2. Archives -> check Flatlist and Monthly.
3. Save. Done. (see screenshot below)
