Apple has sued Samsung for allegedly copying the iPad, iPod and iPhone with its Galaxy Tab and Galaxy handsets.

Samsung copied Apple technologies, designs and even packaging with its Google Android-based products, according to a complaint filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Apple is seeking a jury trial in the case.

“Instead of pursuing independent product development, Samsung has chosen to slavishly copy Apple’s innovative technology, distinctive user interfaces, and elegant and distinctive product and packaging design, in violation of Apple’s valuable intellectual property rights,” Apple says in the complaint.

In the end, she concludes that iPad is still the best “Hopefully, the PlayBook’s upcoming 4G version is upgraded significantly. For now, the tablet market continues to primarily remain an iPad market.”

Size: This is the best part of the PlayBook. The 7-inch screen is perfect for fitting in a jacket pocket or purse. On portability, the Playbook wins.

Look and feel: The PlayBook design rivals the sleekness of the iPad 2. At just 14 ounces, it weighs less than the 1.3 pound Apple and the 1.6 pound Motorola tablets. But with its ingenious minimalist elegance, the iPad is still the winner.

E-mail: The PlayBook loses big-time. It lacks e-mail clients for Yahoo, G-mail and Hotmail. Those icons on the desktop simply link to the e-mail client Web site. Don’t be fooled into thinking the e-mail icons represent an actual program.

Camera: The PlayBook wins, with 3 megapixel front- and 5-megapixel rear-facing cameras that take pictures with great resolution, even indoors.

Web browsing: The PlayBook wins again. Though its web browsing speeds are a bit slower than the iPad 2, it has Adobe Flash player support that the Apple device lacks.

The biggest news certainly was the introduction of the TouchPad, which embodies a lot of capabilities the Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy and other tablets simply cannot touch at this time.

For example, it will sport a videocam, a full suite of office productivity software and much better multitasking capability than any current competitor. It sports wonderful e-mail, photo/video and music (Beats Audio) capabilities. It is not relegated to one browser; it also supports Flash.

… However, the TouchPad won’t be available until summer 2011; that’s quite awhile for people to wait. In the meantime, Apple will be out before that with its iPad 2, which is expected to include some—if not all—of the features noted above.

Nokia Oyj, the world’s biggest maker of mobile phones, filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against Apple Inc. in its latest salvo over the iPhone and iPad.

The lawsuit, the fifth patent complaint between the two companies in the past year over smartphone technology, broadens the fight to include Apple’s iPad touch-screen computer tablet. Nokia’s filing today in federal court in Madison, Wisconsin, helped push Apple shares down 4.2 percent in New York trading, their steepest drop since Jan. 22.

Samsung has stepped up its smartphone war against newer competitors like Apple by unveiling a completely new mobile phone platform, while Sony Ericsson is betting on Google’s Android to pull it into the future.

The companies launched a range of slick new smartphone models on the eve of the world’s biggest annual gathering for the mobile phone industry, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

With so many different mobile platforms now vying for attention and handsets looking increasingly similar, analysts believe the victor will be the one that woos the most developers and boasts the most apps.

He believes the new iPod touch will have the same RAM and processor speed as the iPhone 3GS, and the new media player will sell in capacities of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB at prices of $199, $299 and $399, respectively. He also said that the hard drive-based iPod classic will remain, likely with a 160GB capacity for $249.

Gruber admitted that he has heard “very little” prior to Wednesday’s event in San Francisco, reaffirming reports that a veil of secrecy returned when co-founder Steve Jobs returned to work at Apple. And all of what he’s confirmed, including the addition of cameras to the iPod touch and iPod nano, was known months ago.

Apple revealed at its World Wide Developers Conference that it would be adding to its MacBook Pro family with a 13-inch notebook offering available at two different price points. While the 13-inch MacBook Pro joins the Pro family, Apple isn’t entirely abandoning the white polycarbonate MacBook. Instead, the company is rebranding the notebook as a more of a premium offering. For the time being, the white MacBook will still be offered by the company, starting at $999.

But the new 13-inch MacBook Pro is designed to give customers the look and power of a MacBook at a lower price point.

The minimalist Shuffle has innovative text-to-voice technology, but the controls take some getting used to. Comments that include profanity or personal attacks or other inappropriate comments or material will be removed from the site.
