Google+ on Tuesday (September 20, 2011) opened its new social network to the public

According to unofficial Google+ statistician Paul Allen, Google+ added around 10 million users in the first two days it was public.

“It is clear that Google+ is absolutely exploding – 30 percent growth in just 2 days and with a base of nearly 30 million members already,” Allen said in a post on his G+ profile. [via PCMAG]

That’s being said, it’s still long time to go for Google to take on the mighty Facebook. Many people feel embrassed with Google+ too strick regulation that non-individual user will be suspended the time it’s known/caught by Google.

When you want to compete with the competitor as big as Facebook, you should play by its rule: donot too strict don’t be too hard to your users.
Which social network are you using the most among these three: facebook, twitter, Google+?
I am still with Facebook.

Google just released a new project called Google+ (Google plus) . This is still in beta. So, it’s tried among limited people. Google says:

Google+ is in limited Field Trial
Right now, we’re testing with a small number of people, but it won’t be long before the Google+ project is ready for everyone. Leave us your email address and we’ll make sure you’re the first to know when we’re ready to invite more people.

That’s said, you may sign-in using your Gmail account to https://plus.google.com and click “Keep Me Posted” and write down your first name and email when you get there. Once Google+ is opened for more people, you’ll get notice.

Google Hangouts

Google Hangouts is one of the most talked about feature in Google+. It’s a video chat where you can make video conference with upto 10 of your friends using youtube or just hangouts there seeing them chatting.

Google has purchased popular DVR-maker SageTV. Neither the price Google paid for SageTV nor any other details about the sale have yet been announced. What is SageTV? Digital trends explains:

Started in 2002, SageTV has produced versatile DVR software that works with Mac OS X, Windows and Linux operating systems. The software’s fexibility makes it possible to turn almost any computer with a TV tuner card into the primary hub of a home entertainment system.

SageTV software accepts nearly any audio, video or photo file format tossed its way, so a machine loaded with SageTV becomes one of the most powerful consumer products available. Some popular features included Internet video and Netflix support; commercial auto-skip and clean, easy navigation. And since the company has also produced set-top boxes that can play media directly from a USB drive, SageTV became a hit amongst the tech-savvy crowd.

What’s the purpose of Google purchasing the product? “….a quick integration by Google would allow the company’s free TV software offering to benefit from features it currently lacks, including SageTV’s ability to function as a DVR and media placeshifter.”

Google on Monday confirmed that it has purchased online ad firm AdMeld, which the search giant said will help publishers simplify the ad management process. In Google official blog it says

“We’ve been investing in our publisher tools to try and improve this landscape and have made great progress, but we think we can do even better…

Providing better ad management services to publishers is an area that has seen a huge amount of investment in recent months. Formed just over three years ago, the Admeld team is an example of the huge strides the industry is making—it has quickly developed a great service that is helping many major publishers manage their ad space more efficiently and profitably.

For how much? Google doesn’t say. PCmag learns it’s about $400 million.

… over the next two weeks we’re rolling out a new people widget located on the right hand side of your messages.

Google Wallet is another new product from Google which focuses on online shopping through cellphone which will act like a credit card.

WP has more:

Google unveiled a new digital wallet program Thursday that enables a cellphone to act just like a credit card, giving the search giant its first footing in the business of providing consumer financial services.

A chip inside new Android phones — for now, only one model has it — will allow shoppers to wave their devices in front of a reader to pay for clothes and food at the mall or grocery, the company said. Eventually, Google said, it envisions the cellphone to act as a personal financial hub for coupons, merchant loyalty points, payments and receipts. Full story
