Sunday’s vote paves the way for 44-year-old Yingluck Shinawatra, who has never held office, to become this Southeast Asian kingdom’s first female Prime Minister.

With almost all the votes counted, her Puea Thai party had won a clear majority with 263 seats out of 500, well ahead of the ruling Democrats with 161, according to the Election Commission, which estimated turnout at 74 per cent. Full story

The recent online intrusion into International Monetary Fund servers may have been the work of malicious hackers working for a foreign government, according to online reports.

The IMF is reportedly reluctant to disclose where it believes the attacks came from since 187 of the world’s 194 nations (as recognized by the U.S. Department of State) are members of the fund. The hack’s perpetrators obtained a “large quantity of data,” including e-mail and other documents during the intrusion, according to Bloomberg.

The attacks reportedly began before May 14 when IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested in New York on sexual assault charges.

Indonesia used to get strong criticism by its neighbors in handling forest fire. Not this time around. Brunei is first to commend Indonesia quick response.

Brunei’s Development Minister, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman, expressed appreciation to Indonesia for their ongoing efforts to implement its Plan of Action (PoA) in dealing with the transboundary haze problem.

Indonesia has given its commitment to ratify the Asean Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution after meeting with Asean environment ministers in Singapore, Thursday.

The PoA includes the strengthening of community fire brigades in warning systems and early suppression, increasing zero burning campaigns, and the allocation of some US$18.2 million ($23.2 million) for the strengthening of the Manggala Agni fire brigades in National Parks and Natural Resource Conservation Units nationwide.

Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, Named TIME’s ‘Person Of The Year’. Many people wonder with this decision. Why not Julian Assange of Wikileaks? HP has this to say:

On the one hand, there is the mindset that Zuckerberg deserved the award; after all, Facebook affects the lives over half a billion people around the globe. On the other hand, a reader poll published by TIME reveals that the overwhelming choice for “Person of the Year” was Julian Assange, the man behind the Wikileaks cable releases that have taken the internet–and the world at large–by storm. Zuckerberg took tenth place on the same poll.

Meanwhile, Sam Gustin of Wired.com question the decision as “not serious”

…if the editors of Time were entirely serious about the sentiments expressed in their letter — “There is an erosion of trust in authority, a decentralizing of power and at the same time, perhaps, a greater faith in one another” — the more obvious, though exponentially more controversial choice, would have been Assange, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Wikileaks, who embodies anti-authoritarianism and who also happened to top a reader’s poll in which Zuckerberg came in 10th.

Sam Gustin is right when he concludes that “how central technology, and more specifically, the internet, has become to our lives.” In other words, internet rules. Whoever want to be influential, be creative in anything related to the internet. Just like Zuckenberg and Assange.

Thailand crash out of AFF Suzuki Cup after being beaten by Indonesia 2-1. It’s the first time for Indonesia to beat Thailand after the last 20 times of defeat.

Thailand was sensationally booted out from the first round of the AFF Suzuki Cup after host Indonesia notched a late victory against the Southeast Asia football powerhouse.

Bryan Robson’s Thailand were on the brink of following the already qualified Indonesians through to the semi-finals when former Manchester City Suree Sukha scored in the 69th minute, but pushed the self-destruct button after conceding late penalties which Indonesia star forward Bambang Pamungkas converted.

The 2-1 win gave the hosts top spot in Group A with the maximum nine points….
