Federer, the heavy favorite to win his sixth consecutive U.S. Open title and extend his record of 15 majors, was due to meet fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic at 4 p.m. Sunday for the other spot in Monday’s men’s final.

Nadal, who had reclaimed his No. 2 world ranking by reaching the semifinals of the season’s major (combined with Andy Murray’s fourth-round loss), was no match for the 6-feet-6 Argentine.
While Nadal, 23, was clearly limited by an abdominal strain he suffered last month, del Potro routed him so convincingly, in every aspect of the game, that it’s difficult to argue that the outcome would have differed had Nadal been fully fit.

Would be interesting to see Federer vs Nadad in US Open 2009. Whether Federer would be under pressure like whenever he faces Nadal or more calming down now after reaching his record-breaking 15 grand slam milestone is interesting to watch. Third-seeded Rafael Nadal cruised to a straight-set win to reach the fourth round of the U.S. Open, the tennis season’s final Grand Slam event.

The former top-ranked player and Spaniard Nadal defeated compatriot and 32nd seed Nicolas Almagro 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and 39 minutes to reach the fourth round here for the fourth straight year.

Both players struggled in the opening set, as there were seven breaks of serve in the 12 games. Nadal posted four of the breaks of serve, with the last one putting him ahead, 6-5. He was down, 15-40, in the next game but rallied with the next four points to claim the set on an Almagro error.

In the first moment you’re disappointed, you’re shocked, you’re sad, then all of a sudden it overwhelms you,” Federer finally said, referring to his 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2 loss to Nadal in a momentum-swinging, 4-hour, 22-minute title match Sunday night.

Life goes on. Just like any other sad days it’ll dissipate by time and wishing someday sooner or later we’ll reach the landmark we transpire to. What’s a meaningless life without a hope. What a wasted time of too much dependency on something or someone.
