The National Police said on Tuesday that the Indonesian Premier League is not illegal, despite the Indonesia Football Association’s [PSSI] insistence that the new league could not legally exist without their official sanction.

He said the IPL could continue its activities, although he said they should coordinate with the local police whenever they decide to hold a match, as mandated by the law. “Because it involves thousands of possible spectators, they should obtain permission from the local police before holding a match.”

Despite losing 2-1 in the second leg in Jakarta on Wednesday, Malaysia secured the 2010 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Cup with an aggregate victory of 4-2 over Indonesia.

The Indonesian national football squad, or Merah Putih (Red White) as it is known in the country, was looking to get a boost from its home crowd in a tightly packed Bung Karno Stadium, which reportedly hosted over 100,000 fans despite its official 85,000 capacity.

With the odds against Indonesia after its Sunday 3-0 loss in Kuala Lumpur in the first leg, Malaysian striker Mohd Safee opened the night’s scoring on the 54th minute, which practically sealed the team’s victory as Indonesia would have to score five goals in around 35 minutes to overcome their aggregate deficit. Both team will meet again on Wednesday 29 December 2010 in GBK (Gelora Bung Karno) stadium Jakarta  for the second and final leg which will decide who deserve to lift the first trophy for either team.

Indonesia will have to win by big margin at the second leg of 4-0 or 5-1 if they want to be the champion. While Malaysia will only need a draw to lift the first trophy for them.

A solitary Cristian Gonzales goal secured Indonesia’s place in the 2010 AFF Cup final, after their 1-0 second leg and 2-0 aggregate semi final win over the Philippines.

Both matches in the tie were played at the Gelora Karno Stadium in Jakarta after the Philippines were unable to provide a venue up to international standards.

After a fairytale campaign, the circumstances and opponent proved too much for Simon McMenemy’s men, who surpassed expectations by simply getting out of their group.

Malaysia await Indonesia in the two-legged final this weekend after they beat Vietnam on aggregate in the other semi final.

According to the tournament website, the Vietnamese team was unable to get past the Malaysian’s defense because player Pham Thanh Luong was ousted on a second bookable offense, leaving his Vietnamese team shorthanded for the last 18 minutes of the game.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today described Malaysia’s ability to reach the final of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup as a turning point in the history of Malaysian football.

The Prime Minister who was among 5,000 odd football fans who watched Malaysia hold Vietnam 0-0 in their second leg semifinal at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, through a ‘big screen’ live broadcast by Astro Supersport at Bukit Bintang here said it was also a revival of football in the country.

The 0-0 draw saw Malaysia advance to the final on a 2-0 aggregate, courtesy of a 2-0 win in the first leg semifinal, at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday.

The Merah Putih’s win was rarely stylish and never secure, but even the Philippines coach reckoned his men stood no chance against Indonesia’s “12th man.” An electric atmosphere at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium was the difference as Indonesia won 1-0 against the Philippines in the first leg of their Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup semifinal on Thursday.

The win puts Indonesia on course to possibly meet rival and neighbor Malaysia, which also won its semifinal first leg, in the final round.

Joko added, semi-final ticket price revisions will be no more than 30% of its original value. However, revisions to the lowest price will be no more than 25%. The value of the match rose along with the increasing status of a semi-final group stage.

As reported earlier, Indonesia will host the semi-final match between Indonesia and the Philippines because the latter cannot meet the minimum standard requirement of stadium which will host the event.

As is known, through a bitter-sweet efforts, the Philippines made it through to the semifinal AFF Cup 2010, ranked second at the Group B standings. Unfortunately, Alexander Borromeo team can not hold a home game.

AFF announces the Philippines does not have a required stadium to host matches. As a result, Indonesia will certainly hold a semi-final match at Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta.
