Once you got diabetes, you’ll keep it for the rest of your life. As mentioned, this finding is a step forward, not the final result. But it’s really a good step forward. I wish I could see in my lifetime that the diabetes can be cured totally.
Scientists in Cambridge have shown that an “artificial pancreas” can be used to regulate blood sugar in children with Type 1 diabetes.
A trial found that combining a “real time” sensor measuring glucose levels with a pump that delivers insulin can boost overnight blood sugar control.
The Lancet study showed the device significantly cut the risk of blood sugar levels dropping dangerously low.
Experts said the results were an important “step forward”.
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life threatening condition, in which the pancreas does not produce insulin – the hormone that regulates blood sugar levels.

The apparent plan of Google Inc. (GOOG) to produce a mobile phone under its own brand has unsettled the wireless industry, but the Web giant won’t find it easy to replicate the same success it’s achieved on the Internet.
Last weekend, the company issued Google-branded phones to some employees, fueling reports it will sell its own handset directly to consumers by early next year. Yet Google has been cryptic about its wireless strategy and its motives remain shrouded.
Until now, Google has focused on developing Android, its own mobile software platform for wireless phones, and licensing it for free to handset makers such as Motorola Inc. (MOT), Samsung Electronics Co. (SSNHY, 005930.SE) and HTC Corp. (2498.TW). Just as recently as last month, a senior executive insisted Google had no plans to compete with its handset partners by making its own phone.
Many industry analysts think Google should stick to that pledge. By producing its own phone and selling it directly, Google could alienate handset partners and actually harm its main goal of getting the company’s software onto more mobile devices.

Microsoft Corp. is releasing an updated version of its mapping service with street-level views and new “apps” that tack on tweets, traffic and other location-specific data.
The new version of Bing Maps, released Wednesday in a “beta” test mode, offers slicker technology so users can zoom in more smoothly from the high-up graphical map to the close-up views showing actual streets from a pedestrian or driver’s viewpoint.
With this version of Bing Maps, Microsoft matches Google Inc. in sending cars with cameras down streets to capture images of every block. Microsoft is offering that in 56 U.S. cities for now, while Google has hit all 50 states and expanded the feature overseas.
Microsoft also used lasers to scan the buildings and constructed a three-dimensional map of those cities.
