Now, Google’s Android is one point ahead of the latter. It’s always a good news whenever a open source prevails.

Google Android is now well ahead of Apple’s iOS for iPhone in the race for market share in mobile operating systems, new data released Thursday showed.

Android’s total U.S. share for June came in at 39%, compared to 28% for Apple, according to data compiled by market watcher Nielsen. RIM’s BlackBerry OS was in third place with 20% of the market. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s fledgling Windows Phone 7 operating system, along with the remnants of the Windows Mobile OS, picked up 9% of the total market.

Firefox 5 web browser arrived just three months after Firefox 4 was released. There were a few improvements but version 5 is more like the version 4.1. The new version solved the stability issues that had hounded the Firefox 4. firefox5

Firefox 4 brought a lot of new features, such as ability to sync bookmarks across different computers and improved tab navigation. It improved the speed of the browser. But it also brought random crashes. It is one of the major complaints with the Firefox 4.

Firefox 5 new features are not something to be excited about. Some of the new features in the latest version include improved the Do-Not-Track privacy feature, improved spell checking for some locales, as well as support for CSS animations.

Apple reinvented the mobile phone, and revolutionized the smartphone when it introduced the iPhone. It has been surpassed in overall market share by the me-too, copycat Android OS, and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 is a worthy challenger as well, but this fall Apple has an opportunity to set the bar for the industry once again, and leave the competition in the dust with the iPhone 5. Full story

The “cloud” simply refers to the Internet. “Cloud computing” refers to software and services that run over the Internet. An American convert Muslim has created an Islamic smartphones apps called 365muslim which are available for free on 4G iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches and in the works for Android phones. Eileen Flynn of Statesman has more:

… the Austin social media maven designed the app, which provides daily facts about Islam, including passages from the Quran, sayings from the prophet Muhammad, explanations of Muslim words, traditions and beliefs and historical anecdotes.

An example: “Prophet Muhammad said, ‘There is no man who kills even a sparrow or anything smaller without its deserving it, but Allah will question him about it on the judgment day.’ Yes that means the spider on your windshield, too!”

If you have some money to buy domains, purchase any domain started with the little “i” such as inose, ithink.com, etc. Who knows Apple will buy it someday for $1 million or more.

According to WHOIS searches Wednesday, Apple is now listed as the owner of the iCloud.com domain. As late as Tuesday, the domain was still registered to Swedish firm Xcerion, which had used the URL for its online file-storage service.

Reports that surfaced in late April said Apple paid Xcerion $4.5 million for the iCloud.com domain. Several weeks before those reports, Xcerion had changed the name of that service to CloudMe and registered a new domain, cloudme.com, to support it.
