Roger Federer loses a set but defeats Lleyton Hewitt at U.S. Open
Top-seeded Roger Federer has overcome an error-filled first set to beat former No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt in the U.S. Open’s third round.

Federer is trying to become the first man since Bill Tilden in 1920-25 to win six consecutive titles at the American Grand Slam tournament.

Williams, 27, utterly dominated third seed Safina, allowing her opponent to win only eight points in the first set on her way to claiming the championship in less than an hour.
The American also won the women’s doubles title with her sister Venus on Friday and became the highest ever prizemoney winner in women’s sport during the tournament.
