Thank You Mahkamah Konstitusi!

Media Indonesia, one of Indonesia leading newspapers, highly appreciates and says ‘thank you’ to Mahkamah Konstitusi (Constitutional Court) or MK especially its chief, Mahfud MD, for the playing of a recording at the Constitutional Court on Tuesday 3/10/09.

As  JP reports, ‘the recording contains conversations that allegedly showed the fabrication of evidence conducted between several high ranking officials from the National Police and the Attorney Generals’ Office (AGO) and the younger brother of graft fugitive Anggoro Widjojo, Anggodo Widjojo, so as to incriminate and detain two KPK deputy chairmen, Chandra M. Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto.

The contents of the recording, which suggested a possible assassination plot against Chandra, while also suggesting that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono may have been aware of the incrimination scandal, have astonished the public and ignited anger against both the police and the AGO.’

We, as citizen,  also should express our grateful and support to the judges in MK for the gut they’ve shown to display the recording to public despite disapproval from Minister Patrialis Akbar (of Law and Humn Rights). MK along with KPK has shown its independence and pro-people attitude so far.

The recordings has forced two high rank official in Attorney General (Kejaksaan) and Police Dept. to resign (actually, they were asked to go)

Of course, this is not the end of the drama between Cicak & Buaya (lizard and crocodile). In facts, it’s the beginning. The independent team called Team 8 will not only investigate and give recomendation on the KPK issue to the President. More than that, it will recommend President Sby to reform Police Dept. and Attorney General office as being requested by many activist and law experts.  Some of the Tim 8 recommendation such as the resignation of Susno Duadji (ranked #3 in police headquarter) and deputy attorney general had been met. We hope all the recommendation from Tim 8 will be met by President. Student demonstration has been pivotal on this Tim 8 to emerge in the first place and their advices to be met. But the role of MK has been very very important to make the crocodile naked before the public eyes.
