Who’s the Best Indonesian President?
On 9 April 2009 another general election will be held in Indonesia after which we will have another new democratically elected president. Since gaining its Independence from Japan in 1945, and sucessfully defended the Dutch attack in 1949, Indonesia-barring Suharto and Habibie- has democratically elected six presidents. All presidents of course has their own plus and flipside. Having said that, there should be one or two who one thinks had the best performance & capability as the head of state of the country.
Who do you think the Indonesian president who deserves the awards as being the Best President of Indonesia of all time, the second and the third? And who is the worst? And what is the reason behind your choice?
Last but not least, who will you vote as the new president in the 2009 general election (SBY, Megawati, Amin Rais, Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, Gus Dur, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Wiranto, Prabowo)?

1. Sukarno 18 August 1945 – 12 March 1967
2. Suharto 12 March 1967 – 21 May 1998
3. Bacharuddin Jusuf (B J) Habibie 21 May 1998 – 20 October 1999
4. Abdurrahman Wahid 20 October 1999 – 23 July 2001
5. Megawati Sukarnoputri 23 July 2001 – 20 October 2004
6. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono 20 October 2004 – 2009
As far as my concern, if I have to choose between those mentioned people to be the next president my vote would be for SBY (but he should get better people for the vice president and all the ministers) . He deserve to re-built this country as he has done plenty of ground work these few years, it’s just a bad luck for him that few disasters happen during his period…

Hermawan menulis ketika profil Perdana Menteri Wen Jiabao muncul di Facebook pada 14 Mei 2008, dia mendapat kawan sekitar 14.000 orang dalam waktu cuma dua minggu. Sedangkan profil Presiden Hu Jintao cuma punya sekitar 1000 kawan sampai saat ini.
Kenapa?
Hermawan menyebutkan karena Wen lebih horisontal! Dia lebih suka mengunjungi rakyat ketimbang Hu. Waktu ada gempa bumi hebat awal Mei lalu, Wen terus-menerus mengunjungi korban. Tak salah jika ia dijuluki “The People’s Premier”.
Untuk Indonesia sayangnya yang mewakili tren horisontalisasi politik ini adalah fenomena bumbung kosong alias golput. Inilah pemenangnya

I still believe SBY deserves one more chance to lead Indonesia to better future and possibly will cast my vote for him again. I read one article in Kompas months ago analyzing the need for Golkar to nominate JK together with SBY again, because Golkar lacked of charismatic persons like SBY and SBY certainly needs Golkar since it is predicted that his party won’t get 15% votes in next elections. I pretty much agree with the writer’s opinion, but we should also consider that linking tightly SBY and Golkar can be backfired if government shows poor performances in remaining months before elections.
I think the next President still comes from the military and a person who has proved his performance in leading this country. And it should be remembered that the next President is not a person who always campaign in the TV but he doesn’t have real performance.
