الوليد بن طلال يطلق إخبارية جديدة لمنافسة “الجزيرة” و”العربية”

أعلنت مجموعة “المملكة القابضة” التي يملكها الأمير والملياردير السعودي الوليد بن طلال أنها ستطلق قناة إخبارية سيتولي إدارتها الصحافي السعودي جمال خاشقجي، وذكر البيان أن القناة الجديدة “ستركز على التطور في السعودية والعالم العربي، على الصعيد السياسي والاقتصادي والاجتماعي”.
Saudi billionaire Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal’s Kingdom Holding group is to launch a news channel run by Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. In a statement, the company said the new channel “will focus on the political, economic, and social developments in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world.”
Grup perusahaan Kingdom Holding milik Miliarder Arab Saudi Pangeran Al-Walid bin Talal akan meluncurkan chanel berita yang dipimpin oleh jurnalis Saudi Jamal Khashoggi. Dalam pernyataannya, perusahaan itu mengatakan bahwa chanel baru itu “akan fokus pada perkembangan politik, ekonomi dan sosial di Arab Saudi dan dunia Arab.”
وستدخل القناة الجديدة حلبة المنافسة مع قناتي “العربية” ذات التمويل السعودي و”الجزيرة” القطرية اللتين تهيمنان على المشهد الإعلامي الإخباري العربي. وقال الأمير الوليد في البيان إن القناة “ستشكل إضافة وخياراً آخر للمشاهدين”.
It is expected to compete with Saudi funded Al-Arabiya and Qatari funded Al-Jazeera – the two channels which currently dominate the news media scene in the Middle East. Prince Al-Waleed said in the statement that the channel “will add value and provide viewers with another option.”
Diharapkan untuk berkompetisi dengan stasiun Al Arabiya yang didanai Saudi dan Al-Jazeera yang didanai Qatar – kedua stasiun itu saat ini mendominasi pemandangan media berita di Timur Tengah. Pangeran Al-Waleed mengatakan dalam pernyataannya bahwa stasiun tv ini “akan menambah nilai dan memberi pemirsa dengan opsi lain.”
ويعد الليبرالي “خاشقجي” من الصحافيين المخضرمين والدافعين باتجاه الحداثة في السعودية، وهو ما جعله يضطر هذه السنة إلى الاستقالة من منصبه في رئاسة تحرير جريدة “الوطن” السعودية بعد نشرها مقالة تناولت السلفية وأثارت سخط المحافظين.
A liberal journalist with a big reputation, Khashoggi is an advocate of Saudi modernization.
But his views have got him into hot water in the country. He was forced to resign from his position as editor-in-chief at Saudi newspaper, Al-Watan, following the publication of an article about Salafism which angered conservatives in the kingdom.
Jurnalis liberal dengan reputasi besar, Khashoggi adalah pendukung modernisasi Saudi.
Akan tetapi pandangannya mengundang kontroversi di negara ini. Ia terpaksa mengundurkan diri dari posisinya sebagai pemimpin redaksi di media Saudi, Al Watan, menyusul publikasi artikel tentang Salafisme (Wahabisme) yang membuat marah kelompok konservatif di kerajaan kaum Wahabi itu.

Having more major media corporations promotes competition to present better and more competitive news services, which is in the interest of the viewers and further adds to the Arab media as a whole. Having more of these media outlets helps to develop and train human cadres to achieve a high level of professionalism. Having Monsieur Jamal Khashoggi manage the new station is an important step which sends a positive signal auguring the birth of a new distinguished media station. This of course does not mean that the challenges will be any less for the team charged with carrying out this huge and complicated task.
