مازالت إسرائيل تكافح اليوم الجمعة من أجل السيطرة على النيران المشتعلة في الغابات المطرية، و التي خلّفت حتى الآن واحدٌ و أربعون قتيلاً ، و أدت إلى إجلاء الآلاف من السكان من منازلهم، مدمرةً البيوت و دافعةً بالحكومة إلى طلب المساعدة الدولية فوري، لمكافحة الحريق.
و قال المتحدث باسم دائرة إطفاء الحرائق أنّ الحريق الذي اندلع يوم الخميس هو الأكبر و الأكثر فتكاً في تاريخ إسرائيل.
Israel was still struggling on Friday to control the fire raging in a rain-starved forests that has left at least 41 people dead, forced thousands from their homes, destroyed houses and pushed the government to seek urgent international aid to fight the blaze.
The spokesman for the fire service said that the fire, which broke out on Thursday, is the biggest and deadliest in Israel’s history.
Israel masih kesulitan pada hari Jum’at untuk mengendalikan kobaran api pada hutan yang kekeringan yang mengakibatkan sedikitnya 41 orang tewas, memaksa yang lain meninggalkan rumah, menghancurkan rumah dan menekan pemerintah untuk meminta bantuan internasional guna memerangi api.
Juru bicara pemadam kebakaran mengatakan bahwa apir, yang bermula pada Kamis, adalah terbesar dan paling mematikan dalam sejarah Israel.
و كانت اسرائيل قد تلقت المساعدة من اليونان و بلغاريا و تركيا. و هناك مساعدات أخرى متوقع وصولها من مصر، الأردن، الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، إسبانيا، بريطانيا، رومانيا، أذربيجان، قبرص و روسيا.
Israel has already received assistance from Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey, with Palestinian firefighters also assisting the efforts. Other assistance is expected from Egypt, Jordan, the United States, Spain, Britain, Romania, Azerbaijan, Cyprus and Russia.
و جاء في تقرير على موقع نيويورك تايمز دوت كوم.: أن حالات الوفاة الواحدة و الأربعون حدثت عند وقوع أحد الباصات الذي يُقِلُ حراس سجون متدربون، بالقرب من أحد الإصلاحيات بين ألسنة اللهب. و يعتقد بأن بعض الضحايا هم من أبناء الطائفة الدرزيّة. و تتوضع إصلاحية دامون، على تلال الكرمل قربَ مدينة حيفا و تضمُ مساجين فلسطينيين و اسرائيليين. و كان قائد شرطة محافظة حيفا، أهوفا تومر، قد أصيب بشدة في الحريق، كما تمّ الإبلاغ عن فقدان و إصابة العديد من قوى الأمن و فرق الإنقاذ.

From a report on the NYTimes.com: The 41 fatalities occurred when a bus carrying trainee prison guards near a penitentiary got caught in the flames. Some of the casualties were believed to be members of the Druse community. The penitentiary, Damun, sits in the Carmel hills near the city of Haifa and holds Israelis and Palestinians. The commander of the Haifa district police, Ahuva Tomer, was critically injured in the fire, and several other members of the security and rescue services were reported injured or missing.

و جاء في تقرير على موقع بلومبيرغ: لقد قال رئيس الوزراء الاسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو في اجتماع لمجلس الوزراء الأمني اليوم في تل أبيب، “لا تستطيع اسرائيل التعامل مع حريق من هذا النوع مصحوباً بمثل هذه الرياح القوية، بدون مساعدة دولية”، و ذلك خلال تعليقات بُثَت على أثير إذاعة الجيش الاسرائيلي. إنّ مكافحة مثل هذه الحرائق يحتاج إلى أنواع من الطائرات لا تملكها اسرائيل، بحسب قول رئيس الوزراء، الذي توجه إلى مدينة حيفا بعد اللقاء الذي عقده من أجل تفقد عمليات المكافحة.

From a report on Bloomberg: Israel “can’t cope with a forest blaze of this type, accompanied by such strong winds,” without international help, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a meeting of the Security Cabinet today in Tel Aviv, in comments broadcast on Israel’s Army Radio. Battling the blaze requires types of aircraft Israel doesn’t have, said the premier, who went to Haifa after the meeting to survey the firefighting operations.

This is indeed a universal human tragedy for Jew, Druze, Christian and Palestinian alike, and no one should be offering anything but compassion and sympathy for the victims of this wildfire. We here in California know what it is like to loose firefighters, homes and innocent people to wildfire, and my heart and prayers are with you and your countrymen in this hour of grief.

We have before us dangerous major enemy.” “We’ve trained a lot, but we have not seen such fires, where the flames rise forty and fifty meters,” adding “This may continue for several days. And we may need help from Turkey and Greece.”
